After completely removing the frame of the house down to the foundation (as seen above), we immediately began the process of lowering the block and brick walls to accommodate a one-level rancher. This work had to be completed by hand without the use of equipment, for fear of cracking the foundation. The steel beams and posts that supported the original house had to be removed and replaced with new ones due to the height differences between the original and reconstructed house. The final step in this process was to cap the foundation with a block that would satisfy current building code standards.
Check back next week to see the next step of this interesting project. After all, it’s not every day that you lower a house!
